The Department operates a stores and goods-in handling facility at the Trumpington Street Site.
Stores hold a range of commonly used consumables that are available to collect on a daily basis, and we provide a weekly van run to the West Site on a Wednesday
Before placing a requisition, please check the Stores catalogue to see if we stock the item first. We hold over 1500 items:
- Electrical – wires, plugs, connectors, batteries, bulbs, conduit etc
- Janitorial – cleaning and hygiene products, cloths, paper towel etc
- Fastenings – Nuts, bolts, washers, screws and studding. In brass, steel and stainless steel
- Tools – a range of hand tools and spare blades. There are also some electrical hand tools and specialist equipment available on a loan basis.
- Stationery – a wide range of office necessities – calculators, notebooks, folders, pens, paper, envelopes highlighters etc
- Materials – Available to cut to your requirements – Aluminium, mild steel, stainless steel, copper, and brass in a range of solid profiles, sheets, tubing and pipes. Acrylic/nylon sheets and rods.
- Electronics
- Sundries (items that are not in any of the other categories)

To order an item you can either visit the stores between 8:00am – 1:00pm and 1:30pm – 4:30pm daily (4pm on Friday), or you can email Stores on stores-enquiries@eng.cam.ac.uk detailing what items you require, item code, description and quantity required and job number/grant number. We will then pick your items and send you a message to say they are ready for collection.
If you are based on the West Cambridge site, please email stores-enquiries@eng.cam.ac.uk detailing what items you require, item code, description and quantity required and job number/grant number. We will then pick your items and send you a message to say they will be sent the next van run available.
The Stores Counter is open for personal sales (not Stationery) between 1400hrs and 1515hrs daily.
Tool loan system from our Stores
We have a vast range of tools that you can borrow. Please email us at stores-enquiries@eng.cam.ac.uk, or call us on 32809, to see if we have the tool you require, or visit us at the stores counter. Tools can be borrowed for up to 5 days.
If you lose or break a tool, we ask you to either replace it or provide us with a job number so we can replace it.
